• Please be in prayer for our Port Ministry. With the exception of a handful of requests for shopping, we have not been able to visit or minister to the international seamen that come and go through the port of Mobile since March 22. During the past year, IM has distributed hundreds of international/language Bibles.Beginning in June, we will gradually reengage ship visitation. God has blessed us with 4 Port Chaplains. We still need three more. Although we need at least one per day for each day of the week, it would be great for each Chaplain to have a backup Chaplain and/or assistant. If God is leading you, please contact Gerald Burch at the MBA Office 251-661-7111.

• On Saturday, June 22, the 8th Annual International Ministries Benefit Golf Tournament will be at the TimberCreek Golf Club (9650 TimberCreek Boulevard, Daphne) beginning at  9:00 a.m. Annually, this benefit Golf Tournament provides about one-third of the International Ministries’ budget. We are appreciative of the leadership and hard work of Rev. Art Burroughs and Rev. James Mercer in continuing to lead this important event. Please pray for this event, which is coming at the end of the “Covid-19 safer-at-home order.” Please make up a foursome and attend. Additionally, if you or any of your members and/or acquaintances would be willing to serve as a Tournament Sponsor, please contact Gerald Burch at the MBA Office.

• Make plans now to attend the Walk for Bibles and International Ministries (WFBIM) Captain’s Dinner August 27, 2020 and participate in the Annual 5k Walk for Bibles and International Ministries October 17, 2020.

• It may seem early for the following request, but if we do not start now, we will never be able to make necessary preparations. Please pray for our annual Christmas outreach to the ships that will visit our Port in December of this year. As you know, we annually collect items to make up gift sets for seamen/women on the ships that will be in our port during the month of December. In the past we have put out a list of items that we want. Last year, we received enough items to give gifts to five ships (each ship averages 22 seamen/women).

This year the Seaman’s ministry would like to give small portable travel kits for at least 50 ships (50 ships x 22 seamen = 1,110 kits). If desired, kits like the one depicted in the photos below, may be collected. These kits cost about $10 each. The seamen/women can carry these travel kits in their personal carry-on baggage when they travel internationally. Your church may purchase these kits and deliver them to the MBA office by Thanksgiving. A commitment to provide $10 for kits, can be collected and sent to the MBA office, so that we can place the order no later than the 16th of November. Because of transport costs, it would really be great to receive an additional dollar per kit. Christmas is a fantastic opportunity for us to share the Love of Christ in a practical way as we have an opportunity to share the Love of Christ through His shed blood and resurrection power!

• Kim Wilson, International Language School, requests your assistance in getting the word out to the internationals in your community that ESL (English as a Second Language) classes will resume in August. Registration will open in July and classes start on August 10.

The International Language School needs volunteers. They need teachers, conversation partners, hostesses, and childcare workers.  Please Call Kim at 251-533-2911 for more details. Training for all volunteers will be Saturday, August 1.

---

The ILS offers beginning, intermediate and advanced English as a Second Language classes. They often offer Spanish classes as well.  Contact Kim via email or 251.533.2911 to register.

This ministry to internationals in Mobile is financially supported by gifts from MBA churches. We are deeply grateful for all financial contributions to International Ministries and for volunteers who teach and show hospitality in the Language School. Businesses, churches, and individuals are encouraged to sponsor students by giving money for language Bibles, books, and supplies. You are welcome to donate any amount, as the Lord leads. Please contact Gerald Burch or Kim Wilson if you would like to help.

How You Can Help:
1) donate hospitality items – bottled water, tea bags, fresh bread or pastries, and K-cups
2) being a childcare worker/tutor – Students with small children are not able to focus and study during class with small children in tow.
3) donating your time – We need individuals to help serve refreshments during tea time, help with office work, and teach.
4) praying – We need prayer partners to pray for the students and teachers. Pray that God’s Glory will be made known in and through this ministry.

Please bring the above mentioned items to the Associational office (616 Azalea Road) or contact Kim Wilson at 251.533.2911 or via email.

Metro Mobile Baptist Campus Ministries

Metro Mobile Baptist Campus Ministries has been hard at work despite college campuses closing down and sending students home. Campus ministers, Jerrod and Beth have kept up with many of their students in bible study groups in several states through online platforms.

Baptist Campus Ministries exists to reach, grow and send collegians and to help our churches do the same. We are here to help you, support you, consult with you, strategize with you and partner with you.

Let's take the Gospel to the campus together!

Thomas Wright, Associational Missionary

Emphasizing Biblical Prayer, Evangelistic Ministries, Church Development, Church Planting, Partnership Missions

Everything Changed Rapidly
It is remarkable how the entire culture changed in four weeks. Our churches have responded creatively and heroically. None of us like massive change, but most MBA churches made essential changes to maintain worship and evangelistic ministry during the stay-at-home orders.

The change to an online format was essential and will need to continue. The change to providing online giving options also is essential and ongoing. The use of online registering, online meetings and online training options are also here to stay. Please let me know if you still need help with online options. We have seen wonderful partnership from Tillman’s Corner First and 3Circle selflessly sharing their technology expertise with smaller membership churches.

The MBA weekly news alerts and mobilebaptists.org continues to provide resources to help churches respond. We are grateful the restrictions are loosening, but the virus will continue to influence attendance and activities for months to come. The online training and online options for Vacation Bible School are currently being uploaded.

Camp Whispering Pines is reopening for retreats, class meetings and worship options including new sanitizing precautions. We also need volunteers and teams to continue with repair and upgrade projects.

Even in the midst of changes, we are hearing encouraging testimonies of how the Lord has moved during these days. The first three chapters of Genesis have applicable lessons. God’s enemy continues to try to influence humankind to blame God for Satan’s activity. Satan also whispers to us to reject any consequences from our sin. Change, stress and danger to life causes even the hardest heart to seek ultimate answers. Believers need to be available and faithful to bring biblical truth as the solution. As you know, there are no secular solutions to spiritual problems. Remain faithful. Stay sanitized and sanctified.
