Moses and Ministry
Recent conversations with young men interested in ministry have included encouragement to read the ministry of Moses in the book of Exodus. God used Moses mightily in spite of his reluctance to serve “Who am I that I should go…? (Ex. 3:11, NIV) and in spite of his anger issues (32:19-20). Even after the refugees had seen the power of God they continued to grumble about the food (Ex. 16:2-3), they ignored his clear instructions (16:27) and eventually led a coup against him (Num. 11-17). Moses asked the Lord the pastors’ plea, “What am I to do with these people? They are almost ready to stone me” (17:4, NIV).
However, Moses repeatedly saw God’s faithfulness in spite of (and even because of) tremendous challenges. Deuteronomy 34:10-12 describes the ministry of Moses, “Since then, no prophet has risen in Israel like Moses, whom the Lord knew face to face, who did all those signs and wonders the Lord sent him to do in Egypt…. For no one has ever shown the mighty power or performed the awesome deeds that Moses did in the sight of all Israel” (NIV).
We can find encouragement and effectiveness through the biblical lessons of Moses’ life and ministry.
CWP Plan for Financial Self-Sufficiency
The Executive Committee approved on April 16, 2018 a five-year plan to bring Camp Whispering Pines to financial self-sufficiency. The joint proposal came from the CWP and Finance committees. The plan allows CWP to erect a new 40-bed dorm and bring improvements that allow the area below the dining hall to host meetings, recreation and housing. The proposed increase in income is anticipated to offset the current yearly financial subsidy from the MBA budget within five years. These changes help offset financial reductions from NAMB and other decreased income. CWP remains a ministry of the MBA.
