Fall 2024 Small Group/Making Disciples Seminar Interest Form - We Want to Hear From You

Dear Ministry Leaders:

Just as the Making a Difference Mobile grants brought churches together, the Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions (ALSBOM) Office of Sunday School and Discipleship invites Mobile Baptists to create an event that would meet the needs of different churches with a team approach to training. I am looking for seven pastors who will connect and commit to provide a true associational training event. Imagine the leadership of seven churches meeting together for a specific training event that caters to your target audience. We set the date and location, and ALSBOM will supply the leaders and the resources for the event.

Let me know the needs of your church, your target audience, and which pastors and/or churches you wish to partner.

Some churches may want to get together for a Good to Great Workshop. While churches are offering several good things; what good thing needs to stop or be set aside for the Lord to do something great?

Other churches may need basic instruction to enlist and train new members to step up with confidence to lead a specific interest group. And others may be doing just fine, but need to get together to spur one another on to love and good deeds. Our Association exists to help each other in the ministry in which God called us, and we are stronger together. I encourage you to look at the resources on GroupLife Resources at https://makingdisciplesal.org/grouplife2024/.

Most training events are best scheduled prior to the new church year in the fall.

Please enroll myself _____________________________________, my church _________________________________________________________and staff ______________________________________________________in the Fall 2024 Small Group/Making Disciples Seminar.

Preferred date for event___________________________1st choice, __________________________ 2nd choice, _________________________3rd choice.

If I had the opportunity, I would like to glean wisdom from the following pastor(s) and church leadership (list as many as you’d like): _____________________________________________________________________

Memorial Day Flag Relay May 27, 2024

MEMORIAL DAY FLAG RELAY (MDFR) -- 27 MAY 2024/MONDAY: Gulf Coast Central Region

WHAT: Memorial Day Flag Relay
WHY: “Remember 2 Remember!” – Inspiring Americans on Memorial Day to remember our military service members who paid the ultimate sacrifice in service for our freedoms & their loved ones
WHO: Volunteer runners/joggers from local surrounding communities (open to all interested parties)
WHEN: On Memorial Day Morning (segments simultaneously begin @ 07:00/local time until complete)

WHERE: 3 segments stretching from West Mobile, AL. to Alabama Point, AL., via Baldwin County, AL.
Segment #1 = Begins near National Guard Air Base & USCG Aviation Training Center in West Mobile, AL., to USS Alabama (24 miles/with approximately 50 participants)
Segment #2 = Begins @ Municipal Park, Loxley, AL., to Foley Beach Express Intersection/Hwy 59 (20 miles/with approximately 30 participants due to longer running distances)
Segment #3 = Begins @ Foley Beach Express Intersection/Hwy 59 to Alabama Point Bridge via Gulf Shores, AL.’s Beach Road/Hwy 182 (20 miles/with approximately 30 participants due to longer running distances)

ESTIMATED TOTAL OF RUNNERS/JOGGERS = 100-ish, plus 15 support volunteers (non-runners)

HOW: Volunteers run/jog in at least a pair of 2 carrying 2 flags (one United States Flag & one “We Support Our Troops Flag” (white flag bearing the Service Branches’ symbols) on a light-weight aluminum pole for 1 mile legs (or more as preferred), passing the flags to the next pair at a designated point -- until the entire segment distance is covered. Legs can have more than 2 runners/joggers and participants can share opportunities to carrying the flags when moving in groups larger than 2. The “average” pace is usually about 1 mile per 10 minutes. Some legs are faster and some slower depending on participants.

A personally owned “safety vehicle” follows directly behind the runners at a safe distance to provide a buffer between other vehicles traveling along the route. The safety vehicle is driven by a volunteer driver and also carries the MDFR Segment Coordinator, who provides periodic updates of the flags’ progress along the route, via Facebook and/or texting. In addition to the safety vehicle, local police or sheriff escorts assist in providing additional traffic safety measures while moving along these routes.

Volunteers sign up to participate via a Facebook page or by calling the cell phone listed & are notified of the location of their designated leg of the relay in the same manner, or via text, by the MDFR Segment Coordinator no later than 2 to 3 days prior to the MDFR.

No funds are solicited or accepted in support of this event. Instead, interested parties are directed to contribute to Veteran Support Organizations (VSO’s) like those who agree to sponsor this event.
2024 EVENT SPONSORS (tentatively) include:
-- Cross the Divide (CtD)
-- South Alabama Chapter/Military Officer’s Association of America (MOAA)
-- Veterans Recovery Resources (VRR)
