Week #5 of the 2021 Alabama Legislative Session
Well, apparently, many Alabama Senators are obsessed with gambling. The lottery/casino bill failed to garner enough votes this week to pass out of the Alabama Senate, so immediately SIX new lottery bills were introduced. Senate Bill 309 (SB309), SB310 and SB311 were introduced by Sen. Del Marsh (R-Anniston); SB318 was introduced by Sen. Garlan Gudger (R-Culman); and SB319 and SB320 were introduced by Sen. Jim McClendon (R-Springville). Marsh’s bills were meant to be enabling legislation for SB214 had it passed and some believe the original bill could come back. Some of the lottery bills are for a lottery “only,” but involve Video Lottery Terminals (VLTs) that are like slot machines and could be placed all over the state in restaurants and convenience stores. It is likely, too, that handheld devices could be used to “play the lottery.” All of this will make gambling pervasive in the state.
In addition, if a constitutional amendment is passed that legalizes a state-sponsored lottery, this could incentivize the Poarch Creek Indians to demand that a compact be signed allowing them to have full-fledged casinos and perhaps add one or two more casinos in the state that would be under their jurisdiction.
The gambling bosses are not giving up and going away quietly! We must continue to flood the phones and email boxes of Alabama senators asking them to oppose ALL gambling bills!
Sen. Del Marsh admitted to AL.com that pastors and church members calling their state senators made a difference in changing some of the votes on his expansive gambling bill.
We must not give up fighting for family values in our state! We must not allow the Alabama Legislature to add a new bureaucracy ("Gambling Commission"), target the poorest citizens of our state with fraudulent promises of "striking it rich," while letting gambling bosses and lottery management companies run our state, and we must not allow the legislators to become dependent on gambling revenues to finance state government and then having to "prop up" the gambling enterprises later when the revenues begin to decline. (The state of New York is considering a bail out of the casinos in their state because they are not bringing in as much money as they promised and they are on the verge of bankruptcy. Click here to read the article about this.)
ACTION ALERT: Call your Alabama Senator TODAY and ask him/her to vote NO on ALL gambling bills! Click here if you know your State Senator's name. Click on their picture and fill out the form to continue with your message. Click here if you do not know the name of your State Senator. Enter your zip-code. You will be directed to a page where you must scroll down to find your State Legislator.

HISPANIC CHURCH PLANTER
It is always exciting to see the practical ways that the LORD works. He hears and answers our prayers. His answers are tangible and are often accomplished through His Church (the Living Body of Christ)!
A special thank you to the churches who have offered to sponsor a new Hispanic Church. If the LORD continues to lead as He is now, Dr. Ramon Vielza (from Cuba) and his family will join us to lead this new work. We are praying that they will settle in by June 2021. Several churches have already committed to $100 per month for a three-year period. We still need churches to help fund this new church plant for the first three years. Some families have committed to be a part of the new church which will advance the speed at which this church becomes self-determining, self-propagating, and self-supporting.
Prayer, participation, and giving are essential, but there is also another need. The Vielzas need temporary housing for about six months so that they can get to Mobile and look for appropriate housing while beginning a church. If God leads your church or you to help with this need, please call Dr. Thomas Wright at 251-661-7111 or Gerald at 251-378-1116.

9TH ANNUAL INTERNATIONAL MINISTRIES BENEFIT GOLF TOURNAMENT SATURDAY, JUNE 26, 2021
The 9th Annual International Ministries Benefit Golf Tournament will be at TimberCreek Golf Club (9650 TimberCreek Boulevard, Daphne) on Saturday, June 26, 2021. In spite of the ravages of Covid, we were able to hold last year’s tournament. The LORD greatly blessed last year’s tournament with a great turn out. We want this year to be even bigger. It is not too early to put together one or more teams to enter this tournament. We also depend on tournament sponsors and/or hole sponsors to help us raise funds for International Ministries’ three areas of emphasis: International Churches, the International Language School, and Ministry to Seafarers.

We are grateful to Rev. Art Burroughs (251-232-5070) and Rev. James Mercer (251-423-0772) for organizing and leading this important benefit.

Special Need and Building for Lease
This past 2020 year, we were blessed to have several churches cut and trim the 5 acre yard at the IMC free of charge. Already this year, the grass growing season has begun. At a bare minimum, we need volunteers who can cut and trim every three weeks. If you can help and/or know someone that can help, please contact Gerald Burch, at 251-661-7111 or at gburch@mobilebaptists.org. If we cannot get volunteers, we appreciate an estimate for cutting and trimming.
International Ministries Center/facility for Lease
The IMC has been for sale for several years. During this last calendar year, we had buyers make legitimate offers only to have them cancel due to failure by the Mobile City District Commissioner to grant the necessary zoning changes. We are interested in leasing it to a church or Non-Profit until we can get approval for a sale. Interested parties should contact Gerald Burch, at 251-661-7111 or at gburch@mobilebaptists.org.
