- UPDATE ON MEDICAL MARIJUANA ISSUE AND COMMITTEE HEARING NOVEMBER 28, 2022
The the Lord has given us the gift of extra time to mobilize.
Yesterday, 11/22, the Mobile City Council held a public hearing regarding their proposed ordinance to opt-in and allow marijuana dispensaries in Mobile ("pot shops"). The recording of the meeting can be seen here: https://youtu.be/lQvoIpZI1_g
Rather than vote on the ordinance as planned for 11/29, the council moved their vote to December 13, which will also include a public hearing (speakers have 3 min). As it stands now, two are voting against and 5 are voting for. So we need to turn two of the council to our side. Praise be to God for this date change. It is an opportunity we cannot miss.
More importantly, there is a committee hearing THIS MONDAY, NOVEMBER 28 at 2:00 p.m. at the Government Plaza to allow for expert opinion. We need as many Mobile-area pastors to both attend the 11/28 meeting and then speak at the 12/13 meeting. In between these meetings, we need as many churches as possible to contact Mobile City councilmen and women.
Pastors and principals know all too well the devastation that drugs bring to their communities. Marijuana dispensaries will only worsen the problem. Please help encourage Mobile-area pastors to lead the way and stop the dispensaries.
